Augusta is perhaps best known for being the home of one of the world's most
prestigious professional golf tournaments, the Masters. It is the second oldest
city in the state, and is set against the banks of the Savannah River. The Riverwalk
is a tiered esplanade that features walking trails, stunning scenery, and numerous
historical monuments, including the Morris Museum of Art, which contains Civil
War portraits and southern Impressionist paintings. At the Cotton Exchange Museum
and Welcome Center, visitors can learn about the cotton industry that once made
Augusta the second-largest inland cotton market in the world.
